In the Vector Illustration 1 course, one of my first assignments was to learn to image-trace manually and automatically, and explore simplification, precision, and personal identity through the illustration. I used a mix of both to help create a starting ground to work off of. The overall goal was to recreate a photo of myself using structured line work and shapes while keeping recognizable features.
Using Adobe Illustrator, I first used the automatic command to turn the image into an illustration right off the bat, then went over the design, removing anything that was out of the ordinary and adding details that were deformed or missed. The process allowed me to focus on balance, proportion, and color harmony through a minimal yet expressive aesthetic.
